Tariq Sims

Tariq Sims is a professional Australian rugby league footballer currently playing for the Melbourne Storm in the NRL.

Coming from a family with a wealth of professional and semi-professional rugby league experience and success in domestic and overseas competition, Tariq has had a unique career pathway – holding close ties to clubs in both NSW and QLD. Originally from Gerringong, NSW, Tariq moved to Queensland to chase his first-grade dream, playing for the Brisbane Broncos youth program from 2008-10 before moving north and making his first-grade debut for the North Queensland Cowboys in 2011. Since then, Tariq has played for the Knights and the Dragons as a second row, lock, and prop, whilst also having the privilege of representing NSW Country from 2012-17 and Fiji in international competition in 2013. Undoubtedly however, Tariq’s most coveted achievement has been receiving a guernsey to represent New South Wales Blues in the State of Origin series on six occasions since 2018.

Despite his footballer resume, many may argue Tariq faces fierce competition for the title of best athlete within his own household. Tariq’s wife, Ashleigh Sims, makes her own case as a rising star within women’s professional boxing, and she certainly gives Tariq a run for his money in terms of sheer power, grit and strength.

Outside of the sport, Tariq spends a huge amount of time around his wife, kids and broader family, whilst giving back to the junior football clubs and programs in his hometown and across the country.
