Australian Rugby League Legend and State of Origin Great, Dale Shearer, was one of the best players Australian had ever seen, at the height of his career he was the highest paid player in the NRL, negotiating his own contracts. Commonly referred to as Rowdy he played in 26 games for the Queensland Maroons, 21 International Test matches and 7 World Cup games for Australia.
Shearer was recognised for his “outstanding achievement in Rugby League” when he was awarded the Australian Sports Medal. Additionally, he was named as the wing in the Indigenous Team of the Century joining current and former NRL legends Steve Renouf, Laurie Daley, Greg Inglis and Jonathan Thurston.
Post his successful career, Dale has experienced significant personal tragedy and challenges. He experienced the passing of his beautiful wife Delyse and father Bob, having to raise two teenage boys, nearly losing his life in a car crash, battling legal disputes and bankruptcy.
Dale’s story captivates the sporting enthusiasts as he reflects on the highs and lows of his career, playing in the NRL in the 90’s was like, having to balance working as an electrician, family and the demands of a professional football career.
His personal journey through managing his mental and physical health, career highs and many lows provides a deep insight into the power of the human spirit and the strength of a father, son and brother to survive. Despite all of his experiences Dale remains an extremely energetic, and cheeky individual who is always keen for a chat, to have a laugh and to share his personal stories, and at times the occasional controversial football story.
Dale is passionate about raising awareness for cancer in memory of his wife and father through ‘Shearer Tackles Cancer’ and currently works on multiple business ventures including property management, iBet Sports tipping and as a distributor for Punchbox Fitness.
